A transparent, arched canopy of glass in a metal framework, this entrance canopy leaves the front door unaltered while providing shelter from the rain. In Houston, the center of the energy industry, we have access to every kind of alloy, so it was not hard to find something malleable, yet with adequate tensile strength and resistance to corrosion. We chose cupronickel, the alloy used in the manufacture of silver-colored coins. Our handling of the metalwork emphasized craftsmanship. We shaped the canopy so that it diverts water into hollow lateral brackets, then directs it away from the door via discreetly placed spouts.
