South Boulevard Residence and Gardens

Houston, Texas

Our work on this house, designed in 1924 by the architects Briscoe and Dixon, spanned the better part of a decade. The culminating efforts of several renovations and additions resulted in a respectful, cohesive plan that elevated garden and grounds as a central focus of the project, simultaneously optimizing the size of the property to accommodate the increased living space of a family as it grows and matures into adulthood. The resultant garden space deftly integrated the old and new portions of the house, preserving the intended character of the original designers while ushering in a new era for the site as a whole.

Recipient of 2013 John Staub Award, ICAA Texas for landscape design.

“This project provided a wonderful opportunity to breath life into one of Houston’s greatest houses, by its once favorite architect Birdsall Briscoe. By placing a greater emphasis on the evolution of the gardens, we were able to neatly disperse new buildings in a manner that actually made the site plan stronger, far better than it was before.”
